Students Harvest Washington Garden

Recently some of our kindergarten, 1st and 3rd graders harvested vegetables from our school garden. They picked lettuce, carrots, broccoli and other vegetables and ate them in a salad. They also observed and learned about insects in the garden.

Hour of Code at Washington

As part of Computer Science Education Week, our students participated in the Hour of Code worldwide event. Hour of Code is an international grassroots movement designed to introduce students to basic coding.

Student Council Nutrition Program

The Student Council began a nutrition program in its monthly meetings. The San Gabriel Unified School District’s nutrition specialists came twice so far this year to discuss the addition of new items on the school lunch menu and calorie control. The Council members participated in two taste tests: tamales and beef teriyaki, both of which were added to the school menu. Click above to read more.

Author Oliver Chin Visits Washington Students

On February 10th, children's author Oliver Chin read one of his books to our kindergarten through second grade students. The students were excited to be visited by a real children's book author. Some students even had the opportunity to participate in a drawing contest with Mr. Chin at the end of the assembly. Special thanks to San Marino Toy and Book Shoppe for sponsoring this assembly.

CAASPP Assessment Parent Education Workshops

You are invited to attend a session at any of the school sites listed below. Our district Teachers on Special Assignment will be providing an overview of state assessments for grades 3-5 and how to read parent reports. Translation will be provided.

Family Holiday Night

On Wednesday, December 7th our community celebrated the holiday season at our annual Family Holiday Night. The evening was filled with exciting activities. Fifth of our 4th and 5th graders performed holiday songs in front of an audience of parents accompanied by Mr. Perry on the guitar. Children and their parents purchased holiday gifts for their friends and family. Santa Claus made two special appearances for photo opportunities.

Hundreds Attend Fall Festival

Our Fall Festival was another huge success! Families enjoyed carnival games, sack races, cake walks and food throughout the day. Our raffle baskets and silent auction were very successful and raised funds for our students programs. We would like to especially thank the Gabrielino Interact club and Optomist club for volunteering, and of course our dedicated parent volunteers led by Patty Lindstrom. Without our volunteers this huge event could never happen.

Welcome Back BBQ - A Golden Success

On Friday, August 19th, hundreds of families attended our annual Welcome Back BBQ. After eating, kids had the opportunity to participate in Washington Olympic games and earn gold medals. Thank-you to our wonderful PTA for sponsoring this event!

Music Lessons at Jefferson Middle School

Saturday Conservatory of Music provides low-cost, comprehensive music education to school aged children, from 4- to 20-years-old. Our 3-part package program includes a small group lesson, a music theory class, and an ensemble. We've taught LA area children for 50 years and are now located at Jefferson Middle School in San Gabriel. We meet on Saturday mornings from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
